New Course: Networking with Windows Server 2016 (Exam 70-741)

CBT Nuggets trainer Keith Barker recently completed his new Networking with Windows Server 2016 (Exam 70-741) course, providing you with your first step toward earning your Microsoft MCSA: Windows Server 2016 certification. Keith worked hard to develop hands-on virtual labs to accompany many of the course videos to give you the practice you need for real-world application of skills and certification exam success.

In this 89-video course, Keith tackles the issues and topics that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work with Microsoft Windows Server 2016, including Domain Name System, DHCP, IP Address Management (IPAM), network connectivity and remote access solutions, core and distributed network solutions, as well as advanced network infrastructure.

We asked Keith about his course and how you can get more out of your CBT Nuggets Learning Experience.

Q: Why should companies train their IT professionals on Windows Server 2016? What value does Server 2016 bring to an organization and the IT pro?
Windows Server is one of the main operating systems in corporate networks today. Understanding its features, how to correctly implement them, and how to troubleshoot when necessary are critical skills for any company that has on-premise or cloud Windows Server instances.

Q: From a learner perspective, what did you keep in mind when creating this course?
I wanted to make sure that I kept the learner engaged, so they would have fun and benefit from the skills learned via the videos and hands-on labs.

Q: Any out-of-the-box tips for learners to get the most out of your course?
Watch the videos, then re-watch them on a second monitor or mobile device while reinforcing your skills using the provided hands-on labs. Also, answer the quiz questions that are strategically presented throughout each video.

Q: What was your favorite Nugget to create in this course?
I really had a blast with so many of them. I don’t think I could single out just one as my favorite.

Q: What’s the most important thing you hope learners take away from this course?
Knowledge of the technology, hands-on practice from the labs, confidence in their skills, a better quality of life, and better results for their employers as a result.

Q: What course(s) or certification(s) should learners complete before diving into your Networking with Windows Server 2016 (Exam 70-741) course?
CompTIA’s Network+ (or equivalent knowledge) would be beneficial for a learner who is considering enjoying this course.

Q: What course(s) or certification(s) should learners look to jump into after they complete your Networking with Windows Server 2016 (Exam 70-741) course?
The 70-740 (currently in progress) and 70-742 would be useful for someone pursuing the MCSA. After that, the Microsoft MCSE: Could Platform and Infrastructure would be a logical next step for those interested in additional certification.

Q: Some of our learners find it difficult to sustain their training momentum. What advice would you offer learners who hit that particular obstacle? How can they keep their motivation to train?
Commit publicly to a study schedule, such as three hours a week or three days a week. Ask friends and loved ones to keep you accountable, and remember that the investment in yourself is totally worth it!

Q: Some of our learners may know that you are a fan of hypnosis. How does hypnosis help you  or how can it help our learners  to achieve training goals?
Hypnosis is a natural state that people slip into and out of multiple times a day. In the right state, such as “being in the zone,” learning becomes easier, as you continue to enjoy the videos and practice with the hands-on labs. People are MOST SUGGESTIVE to themselves. That means that it would be wise to listen to one’s self-talk, and if that self-talk doesn’t serve you, go easy on yourself but take small and deliberate steps to improving the self-talk.

Q: As many of our learners know, you seem to like to sing in your training. If you could have an IT-themed band, what would be its name and what would be the title of your band’s first album?
The band would be “SDN and the Gigabits.”
The first album would be “Novell Memories.”
